Jean Monnet Chair in EU Law & Policy
In September 2011, the European Commission awarded Associate Professor Nikolaos Farantouris the Jean Monnet Chair in EU Law and Policy, with a focus on competition law and policy, Energy, and Transport. Under the auspices of the Chair, new courses were introduced into the curriculum, along with research activities (seminars, working groups) in the respective fields, as well as the LNG Forum research group, dedicated to researching and analyzing the regulatory framework and the liquefied natural gas (LNG) market, its contribution to the diversification of energy sources, and the security of energy supply in Europe. On November 24–25, 2011, the Jean Monnet Chair in the Department of International and European Studies represented the University of Piraeus at the proceedings of the 4th General Assembly of the Euro–Mediterranean University (Euro–Mediterranean University – EMUNI), held in Lisbon, where it was decided that the University of Piraeus would become an academic partner and a member of the EMUNI General Assembly. The Euro-Mediterranean University designated the Jean Monnet Chair in the Department of International and European Studies as the liaison for further cooperation and joint research activities. www.emuni.si/en
