Library

 

The University of Piraeus Library is housed in the basement of the Main Building and holds more than 90,000 volumes of printed books. It also provides access to 215,000 e-books, 14,800 electronic journal titles, and 13 databases through the Hellenic Academic Libraries Link (HEAL-Link).

The collection of books and journals primarily covers the University’s fields of interest, as well as topics of general interest. The collection includes various publications from private and public organizations featuring technical reports and statistical data, as well as audiovisual material on CD-ROM and DVD, all of which are continuously enriched. All undergraduate and postgraduate students, researchers, doctoral candidates, faculty members (DEP), and the technical and research staff of the University have the right to register as members of the Library.

The core services of the Library are:

  • Provision of lending and interlibrary loan services

  • On-site study within its facilities

  • Provision of a small computer lab for students

  • Information literacy programs

  • Guidance and provision of bibliographic information

  • Access to and support for the Turnitin plagiarism prevention software

  • Management of orders for printed and non-printed material

  • Subject indexing and cataloging of material according to international standards

  • Access to European Union information sources through the European Documentation Centre

  • Support for the institutional repository “DIONI”

  • Provision of equipment and books for the visually impaired

  • Cooperation services with Greek and international libraries
