Bio

Dr. Evaghoras L. Evaghorou is Associate Professor of International Relations at the Department of International and European Studies, School of Economics, Business and International Studies, University of Piraeus. He comes from Famagusta District, Cyprus. He grew up in Larnaca where he graduated from High School. Following he served in the military as Reservist Second Lieutenant (1994-96).

He received a degree in Economics from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (2000). He went on to receive an MA degree in Finance and Investment from the Business School of Nottingham University (2002). He then received a Ph.D. in International Relations from the University of Macedonia (2005).

He was Lecturer (2009-14) and Assistant Professor (2014-24) at the Department in which he still works today. Moreover, he has taught as Visiting Lecturer at the University of Cyprus (2007-08), as appointed teaching instructor at the University of Macedonia (2006), at the Greek National School of Public Administration and Local Government (2018), and in a postgraduate level at Neapolis University Pafos (2020-21).

His academic and research interests focus on the theory and methodology of International Relations, the strategic analysis, the great and the emerging powers, the international political economy, the defence economics, the Greek-Turkish relations, and the Cyprus issue.

He is the author of the book “Greek-Turkish Relations from 1923 till Present: Theory of International Relations and Strategy”, and co-editor of the volume “War in Ukraine and International Rearrangements: Essays in the Memory of Ilias I. Kouskouvelis”, both of which in are Greek. He has also published numerous articles and essays in the areas of his academic interests, in peer-reviewed international and local academic journals and academic volumes. Furthermore, he has presented several announcements in academic conferences. In addition, he delivered presentations and speeches and has written articles in newspapers relating to his academic field.

He is the Director of the “Study of BRICS States” Laboratory, and a collaborating member of the “Energy in Environmental Policy” and the “Turkish and Eurasian Studies” laboratories, all of which are part of the Department of International and European Studies at the University of Piraeus. He was previously president of the “Centre for International Politics, Thessaloniki” (2006–2012).
