Spyridon Roukanas is Professor of International Political Economy at the Department of International and European Studies of the University of Piraeus. He graduated from the Department of International Economic Relations and Development of Democritus University of Thrace (2003). He was awarded his Master of Arts in International Political Economy from the University of Leeds (UK) (2004). He was awarded his Ph.D. at the Department of International Economic Relations and Development, Democritus University of Thrace (2008). He teaches as Associate Educational Personnel at the Undergraduate Program Studies, Business Administration of the School of Social Sciences, Hellenic Open University in the Thematic Unit [DEO 41] “Money and Capital Markets”, as Visiting Academician at the Neapolis University Pafos, the course “Financial Management for the Public Sector” with the method of distance learning and he has taught to the following Master Programs: “International & European Studies”, “Energy: Strategy, Law & Economics», “BRICS: Economy – Society – Foreign Policy”, and “International and European Policies on Education, Training and Research”, Department of International and European Studies, University of Piraeus, “Global Political Economy” and “Governance and Public Policies”, Department of Political Science and International Relations, University of the Peloponnese, “Financial & Management Engineering”, Department of Financial and Management Engineering, University of the Aegean and “SE Europe Studies”, Department of Law, Democritus University of Thrace. His main research interests are in International Political Economy and economic development in the countries of Southeast Europe and emerging economies and their relations with the EU.
RESEARCH INTERESTS His research interests include the study of the International Political Economy and Economic Development in the countries of Southeastern Europe, the Eastern Mediterranean and emerging economies, as well as their relations with the EU. Parallel, he is studying the effects of the international financial crisis on contemporary international economic environment. He also studies the configuration of the international economic environment under the prism of emerging economies in the global economy.
